Gratitude
Stewardship is living a grateful and generous life that opens our hearts to God’s love and mercy. This love and mercy transforms our hearts, our lives, and our relationships.
Our Lady of the Holy Cross was founded in the year 1864. The earliest members of the parish were of German and Irish descent, but within ten years, the parish became predominately German and heavily populated for over a century. The church was built in 1909 and still serves the needs of the faithful well in the sense that beauty and light radiate everywhere. The church’s unmistakeable Gothic style is reflective of the ethnically German cultural taste of those days. Thanks to generations of accountable stewardship continuing to the present, the church stands in marvelous condition. The church clock and bell are in good working order thanks to some recent anonymous contributors.
The Fertile Soil
Our Lady of the Holy Cross continues to be faithful to its mission even though the scene is different. We have adjusted our sails amid the winds of change. The parish does not work as comfortably as in days past when the Baden neighborhood experienced more social stability. The current instability has become for us an opportunity to minister to our neighbors in ways we could only imagine prior. We rely on the gifts of the Holy Spirit as we continue to do God’s mission.
